And how about hard proofs? Any suggestions?
Proofing Hexachrome (that is to say getting prepress comps that are accurate
representations of what will come of a six color press using Hexachrome inks
and Hexachrome profiles for seperation) is an open issue at this point. The
workflow that will allow this conveniently from the DCS2 seperations that
HexWare produces is only available on a few top price proofing systems, not
the type of thing you would be likely to have in-house. RIPs for inkjets that
can effectively recombine those DCS2 files and then convert from the
Hexachrome profile to another profile for the inkjet (be that CMYK, CcMmYK,
CMYKOG, or CcMmYKOG) are in the offing, but not yet available. Workflows that
allow large gamut (AdobeRGB or above) RGB files to be placed and converted
along with named colors at RIPping to Hexachrome for press and proofed from
the composite RGB files via the press Hexachrome profile to the inkjet
profile are also just short of being viable. So there is lots of promising
smoke, in terms of affordable Hex proofing, and simplified Hex workflows, but
neither has quite caught fire yet.
