To get reasonable results with my 5000, I had to play with the
linearization curve that Color Savvy generated.
Usually, my practice is to smooth the Color Savvy curve once in
Photoshop. However, if you watch the black end of the curve you will
see a gross reshaping of the curve, making it considerably less
steep. So I but a couple of dots on my monitor to indicate the shape
of the non-smoothed curve, and tweeked the smoothed curve to match
the original slope. This has given me a usable (for most images)
provile.
Not smoothing it did not work either.
My suspicion is that getting a very accurate low end to the
linearization curve might help a lot. I am preparing a 255 step gray
scale and will try to use that for pre-linearization if I can figure
out how to do it.
The best might be to get Color Savvy (or some other linearizable
package) to take a much finer scale.
All the best,
John Wawrzonek
