[TABLE NOT SHOWN]
I have a question regarding the HP 500 PS printer. A client has one
and is using the default driver, (which looks like the Adobe PS
driver), to run the printer, no RIP etc, just the default driver.
They are only interested in getting this color managed to the point
of getting predictable results and a good monitor/print match.
The 500ps comes with a software PS rip, which is combined with a standard
PS driver from Adobe (but you can use LaserWriter or other standard PS
drivers too, if you prefer). Color management is a bit tricky on these
printers because of the pigment based K and dye based CMY inks. On plain
and coated papers they are regular CMYK devices, hence to be profiled as
such, but on glossy papers they are CMY devices (no K ink), hence to be
profiled as CMY or RGB. You can send CMYK, but that will get converted
back to CMY, so save yourself the trouble. Note that the paper type
selection is critical.
