Its certainly possible to build an RGB profile and then send CMYK data to
it... but in doing so, there is that troublesome extra conversion, which may
or may not be properly controlled, and which is often a source of error or
innacuracy. Proofing CMYK files to an RGB inkjet by converting them
(properly) to RGB before sending them through the RGB only operating system
level path to a nonPostScript driver would be the route you are describing. I
was referring to sending a PressCMYK file to the RGB output profile of a
PostScript device, where the chances of getting accurate proofing of
everything from EPS elements to named color callouts is far more questionable
without a true CMYK profile for the printer.
