Hi, Pete.
I did some research on the package you are recommending, the iProof PowerRIP
2000. It seems to be relatively expensive (a "lite" version for $180 - which
I probably don't want - and a "full" version for $300 -- see these prices at
http://www.jandr.com, search: "PowerRIP").
Apparently, PowerRIP is also being offered in single-user combinations that
cost close to $2,000: what is the reason for such a high price? (see these
prices at
http://www2.warehouse.com/search/pppsmainsearch.asp?qu=powerRIP&home=mac&fla

As for the speed issue, I am quite satisfied with my EpsonNet 10/100 BaseTx
Internal Print Server 2 Ethernet card: it doesn't seem to slow me down
perceptibly for my purposes. Also, USB is limited to a cable length shorter
than I need (unless I boost the signal with added hardware), and serial is
out of the question with my 1GHz dual-processor G4 without a card add-on,
which I am not considering viable.
I am downloading the Demo from the iProof web site to see what results it is
capable of, and I will give it a thorough testing.
Thank you very much for your very helpful advice.
