Hello all,
this is my first post to this list, and I'd like to thank you for the huge
amount of information on color management issues I've picked here for the
last few months.
I need some advice concerning the use and ICC profiling of Apple's LCD
displays. We have a conservation/restoration research center at the
University here (
http://cecor.eba.ufmg.br), and we're planning to upgrade
the lab's photographic facilities, dedicated to the documentation of the
restoration processes applied to paintings and sculptures, mainly from the
18th and 19th centuries. We're going to use a Better Light scan back to
capture the images, and add some new Mac workstations to edit the files,
print (on inkjet) and save them in a hi-res database. I've seen comments on
the profiling and image characteristics of the 17" and 22" displays, but
none on the use of the new 23"HD monitor.
Does anyone have experience with these displays, and could indicate how
they compare with the 22" Cinema Display? Should the increased resolution
settings be worth the difference in price (for this specific use)? Or is
there a better display in this price range for this work? We're also going
to use a portable Mac (a G4 Titanium PowerBook or a G3 iBook with a
14"display) to capture images on the field.
As we're going to use the scan back, an A3+ Fuji scanner (FineScan 2750)
and large format inkjet printer (probably an Epson 7600 or 9600) in a
color-managed workflow, could you point out what you think should be a
good, cost-effective (or an intermediate and a high-end) profiling package
for these items?
Thanks in advance,
Paulo Baptista
