Yes...this seems to be the case with most of the desktop models. With my
old (read: no longer being developed/supported) Stylus Photo EX I could
pull the cartridge out, tip it forward, replace it, and get a few more
(full size) prints out of the cartridge before it ran dry. Since the
cartridge was translucent you could actually see how much ink was left.
Appalling in most cases. Now they've gone and chipped the cartridges and
made the plastic opaque so you can't see how much ink you're throwing away.
out of sight, out of mind, right? Most of their revenue is generated from
consumables, and now you are more or less forced into using their product
and replace it when they think you should (the more often the better).
