Hi All...
I'm very new to Color Management theory and practice.
I have read many of your posts (many WAY over my
head), and I'm sure the following has been covered
somewhere, but I can't seem to find just the right
answer in the archives.
I own a Mac G4 that runs OSX (and of course OS9.2.) I
own an Epson 10000 printer. I'm running Photoshop 7. I
own GretagMacBeth's i1 Pro/w i1 Match. The problem
lies in creating and applying the ICC profiles using
GretagMB's profiler to my printer. Realize that I
have only ever printed B&W photographic art prints
using Win2k with third party inks.
I have profiled my scanner and monitor in OSX, and am
currently trying to profile my printer. I can only
print on the Epson 10k through OS9 because of course
Epson does not yet have an OSX driver for this
printer. I know very little "Mac" and even less
"ColorSync", and even less Photoshop 7 interaction
between monitor/printer/colorsync spaces.
My question is: How can I print in OS9 through
Photoshop to get my printer profile? And which
profiles need to be active in (1)Monitor space,
(2)Colorsync space (3)Photoshop space and (4)Printer
space? There are so many options in Photoshop for
color management, it makes my head spin. And is
Photoshop space completely different from all the
other spaces (ie Colorsync, Monitor, and Printer other
than Photoshop)?
Also, when I do other things than print my images, ie
"web stuff", how do the monitor/colorsync/photoshop
spaces change? How do each of the fields in
photoshop/colorsync need to be set?
When I scan, will a scanner ICC profile be embedded in
my file, then through colorsync or photoshop (which
one?) the monitor profile takes over, and then the
printer profile takes over when I get ready to print?
As you can tell, Color Management is clear as mud to
me, and even though I've perused the "CookBook", read
your posts to the Colorsync list and read umpteen
Photoshop books, there's nothing I've found to pull
this all together for me. If there is a good resource
for any of my questions...PLEASE inform!
Thanks so much,
Cathy
