I'll admit my "Best" bias but you sound like a perfect candidate for their
Best PhotoXposure RIP. It's similar to ColorProof but with a couple of
features targeted especially to photographers.
With it you can do straight CMYK "press/proof simulation" proofing or "full
gamut RGB/LAB proofing.
The cool thing you can also do (that differs it from ColorProof) is you can
give it RGB/Lab data and get a CMYK simulation proof. The thing I like is
you can keep your images in RGB but still print a CMYK simulation proof
WITHOUT a prior conversion to CMYK in Photoshop, a definate time-saver.
There's also the option of actually having it perform the CMYK conversion
for you and save the result as a TIFF image. Now you've got a CMYK image
that went thru the exact same ICC transform as the proof you're holding in
your hand. Nice.
As far as the 9600 goes, we've heard nothing but positive comments on it
(I'm still waiting to get my eval unit!). Quality as good or better than the
Epson 10000 at half the price. Gives up a bit in terms of performance to the
10K but the new UltraChrome inks sounds like the solution everybody's been
looking for as far as the whole color gamut vs. ink stability/metamerism
trade-off.
Hope this helps,
Terry
