Does anyone know of any review/comparison articles or info?
Thats not a comparison I've seen published anywhere, and none of the screens
you mention are highly controllable. I've had reasonable luck calibrating
iMac CRTs, and the new 17" eMac CRT should be a tempting choice as well.
Portable LCDs don't have as many layers in them, and don't offer as wide a
viewing angle as desktop ones, though I am very impressed with the
calibration I can manage on current PowerBooks with the Spyder; its just that
you really need to have your face perpendicular to the screen, even the part
of the screen you are looking at, to get accurate contrast values.
So of the LCDs you list, the LCD iMac would be the preferred choice, and
would be my choice out of the whole batch, especially if you could manage the
newer 17" iMac. Its much brighter than a CRT, and offers as much color
control as you need for most types of work. Just set the brightness to a
level appropriate to your environment (or to match the brighness of your
lightbox if you use one), and run PhotoCAL on it in that state. I use one
that way at home, and find it to do just fine... if I can keep my son from
putting technocolor background pictures on it.
