My experience with flatbed scanners for scanning 35mm trannies are 2 years
old. I used to scan with an Eversmart and a Linoscan 1800 (aka Hi Res also).
The main differences are:
Linocolor was easier to profile and came with IT8 targets and profiling
software. Eversmart was very hard to profile at that time.
Eversmart has two ways of loading 35mm transparencies. With a holder for
mounted 35 transparencies or with a customizable holder for unmounted ones.
Linocolor soft had a feature for correcting lines due to bad positioning in
the holder or in the mount.
Eversmart had a far better anti Newton ring coating on its glass so you do
not have to open your scanned originals before scanning a new batch. Note
that if you plan to scan with mounted originals on a Lino you can
occasionally get Newton rings even if you think that the surface of your
original is flat enough.
Do not consider the Eversmart feature for cleaning scans as by now you can
do this task faster using PS7 and a combination of healing brush, clone
stamp and dust&scratches.
I worked with them for one year each one. I have worked with Nikon
Supercoolscan LS1000 with autoloader but is not considerable now.
Do not consider the Imacon Precision/Photo if you care about scanning full
frame/image because the multi 35mm holder (the one that came with it is a 2
frame holder, but you can order a custom one) does not really scan 24x36mm
as its technology needs a bit of your frame/image so as the magnetic holder
works properly. I do not test the new range of Imacon scanners yet but I
believe that the 35mm holders still have the same problem.
