I have recently had the use of one of these Color Cue devices. Because of
its ability to read and display Lab data I did a few comparisons with our
DTP41.
I found it needed to be calibrated every time I turned it on, nothing too
surprising. I did find it varied a lot from the DTP41 especially in high
saturation or density areas. Midtones seemed closer.
Maybe we got a lemon.
Not entirely sure how it works, looks like it only has one CCD in it - no
filters ?
I liked the portability and the price. My partner sells pantone products
here in Aussie and has sold a few of these things to print brokers, design
agencies for their reps on the road.
Not bad for getting you in the ballpark, just wish it was a little more
accurate.

I found it to be miserably inaccurate. Failed calibration better than
half the time, and when I did get it calibrated, it would give
different answers on consecutive measurements of the same sample.
Also, the Lab values it reports are D65, not D50, for reasons I won't
even pretend to understand.
