I think most of us are questioning if anyone is the target market.
I would go along with the idea that none of the ongoing members of this list
are in the target market... but the device's success would indicate that what
colorgeeks think may not be an accurate indicate indicator of what the public
will be interested in.
Or, you can fool some of the people some of the time...
If it had been executed well, I could see some uses for this
thing-most of us don't drag our entire collection of swatchbooks
around, for example. But an instrument that
* gives different readings on consecutive measurements in a
space of 10 seconds
* disagrees with the evidence of my senses
* disagrees with at least some printings of the swatchbooks
even when you've just cracked the shrinkwrap
* uses D65 to make matches that will almost certainly wind up
being evaluated under D50
* is designed so that no matter whether you're left- or
right-handed, your hand will cover the readout when you measure the
sample
* places the calibration target in a location where it's almost
certain to get damaged, and
* has a menu system that makes the IRS phone system seem user-friendly
just seems guaranteed to foster a deep distrust of color measurement
in the minds of unsophisticated users...
Of course, that's just my opinion.
