Thanks for weighing in on this Terry.
Could you tell me a bit more about ProfileMaker's
optical brightener correction? Is it a function that
can be turned on when you know you're profiling with a
paper that has brighteners? What degree of control
(options, that is), if any, do you have over this
correction? Or is it the case that this correction
factor is applied at all times, without the option of
turning it on?
Thanks,
D

If you're using Gretag's ProfileMaker 4.1 with the new
spectral data collection and optical brightner
correction, it's less of an issue to have a UV filter.
Having said that, I've yet to have anybody tell me
that having a permanent UV filter is in any way a BAD
thing.
I recently had to make this decision when purchasing
my new Gretag iCColor unit (I love it!) to go with
either the UV or non-UV model. I opted for the UV unit
for that reason. So far it's been the equal (but
slightly different) than the Spectroscan unit I'd been
using for several years. The upside? How about 3-4
times faster chart measuring? So far it's saved me
countless hours of on-site measuring. The beauty is I
can take the time to measure several charts (typically
the TC3.5, IT8.7/3 and the newer ECI2002) and see
which
gives me the best results. I would've never had the
time for this with the Spectrolino/scan. Having said
that, the 'Scan is still the king of versatility and I
probably will not part with it for that reason.
Just my few cents worth,
Terry
