We've had good success working in an ICC based managed colour workflow when
it comes to Photoshop and it has saved us much frustration working with new
vendors, and especially those overseas.
But now that we are trying to use the same techniques for Illustrator (v.
9.02 & 10) we have run into some difficulties. In Photoshop we were only
concerned about images, but in Illustrator there are other challenges...
most notably rendering type correctly.
Presently our working space is 'US Web Coated (SWOP)v2' which is a result of
choosing the US Prepress defaults in the colour settings dialogue. However
we want to proof on our Xerox Phaser 7700gx and so we let the printer driver
(the Illustrator option in the printer driver) handle that reseparation for
us. This works fine for graphics in the layout, but it applies the same
reseparation rules (UCR, GCR, etc.) to type which usually means that black
(k) only type is rendered as a four colour build (CMYK). On a laser printer
this makes the type look like some kind of thermography effect.
Why is this happening and how can I stop it?
Many thanks in advance,
iE
