Simulating a Matchprint
Simulating a Matchprint

I just met with some folks from Xerox and Imation ("Kodak Polychrome
Graphics") to learn about their Matchprint server technology, which I had
tested and checked out last year when it was in version 1. In version 1, I
found moires where the EFI and Splashes had none, and no better color
matching than the Splash and EFI running the DC12. The 2.0 version has a
more sophisticated calibration process, and it now comes bundled with the
DC12 and a Spectrocam with no support for any other spectro (yippee!). I'll
be testing it against a simulation on the Splash G620 next week.
Does anyone have any experience with the Imation Matchprint Simulation RIP
2.0? I don't know its official name; I like to call it the Silver Beast, or
Darth RIP...
The broader question: what's the best INKJET/RIP combo to simulate a
Matchprint's color? I've heard some good things about the Canon BJC-8500
and, of course, the Best RIP... I feel burned out on Epson 5000s, though
admittedly, I've only worked with them on the EFI RIPs...
Suggestions? For $5,000 or less?
