Eric,
My company also just purchased the eye-one. The jumping sliders you are getting is caused by the monitor's refresh rate, it happens to all our monitors too, the device is not bunk. We let the sliders jump above and below the target and let it go somewhere in between. Close is good enough as the profile will take care of the rest. I have not used other calibration devices so I can not help with your other questions. We are getting good results with the package. i wouldn't say profiles are perfect but we can do tweaking in Profile Editor (once I get some time).
