Having had problems printing with profiles on an Epson 1280, my images were
fluorescent pink, I conducted a survey among forum9 users to learn what
results they were achieving with the 1280 when using profiles.
Thirteen either P.C. or Mac users of quite varied Photoshop experience
responded. Some had difficulties producing good color but most were very
pleased when using either Epson or custom profiles.
Clearly, since most are getting excellent results, the problem I was having,
images turning pink, is not shared by others. Since sending this survey
out, I discovered something. In the past, it was my experince that the
colors that appeared in the Epson 3Print Preview3 window were quite close to
what I got on a print. When the image on the 3Print Preview2 was pink so
was the print.
Consequently, when I started using both Epson and Custom profiles in the
3Print Space2 on seeing the pink 3preview2, not wishing to waste paper, I
didn9t bother to print. A couple of days ago, I discovered an article by
Ian Lyons, 3Using Custom or Epson Media Profiles2 for Windows users.
http://www.rgbnet.co.uk/ilyons/media_profiles/media_print_1.htm. It
contained the following quote,
3One last point. Just as the Epson colour space profile described at the
beginning should not be used with No Color Adjustment mode it is the case
that ICC media profiles should NOT be used in any other mode but No Color
Adjustment. Using any other driver mode with such profiles will produce
prints that look fluorescent pink/red, so be warned and stick with the
settings described, and PLEASE don9t be tempted to use the Print Prevew3
Upon reading that, with a pink image in the 3Print Preview2 window, I made a
print and was very surprised to discover that the print was not pink, but
rather had colors quite close to the soft-proofed Photshop image. In
addition, as I noted earlier, when I do a 3convert to profile2 the 3preview2
looks fine, but when I click O.K. It turns pink. I have not as yet printed
that since I9d rather not do a print that way.
My images are tagged Adobe RGB (1998), I either use Epson profiles or
profiles made with Monaco EZcolor, then using the same settings for printing
as the profile was made with.
Do others have a similar or different experience using Epson3Print Preview?
Martin
I am conducting a survey to try to clarify a problem which may be
significant for 1270/1280 users. I would much appreciate your response.
If you use profiles in Photoshop with an Epson 1270/1280, my understanding
is that the usual procedure is as follows:
1- Under File, choose either Print Options or Print
2- Under Profile choose a specific Profile from the pop-up menu
3- One then selects Mode-- Custom-- Advanced
4- A new window pops up, and under Color Management-- No Color Adjustment
If you follow the above procedure, what are your results?
I would appreciate your answers to the following questions?
a- Are you a Mac or PC User?
b-Are the colors correct?
c-Do you get an overly pink cast ?
d-Do you have an alternative method for using profiles?
You could mail this to me directly.
Thanks much, Martin
