My Spectrocam UV is a converted standard model and arrived with a purple dot
sticker on it to identify it as a UV model. However the sticker didn't last
long so it would be hard to identify a converted UV Spectrocam without
reading a paper with brighteners in it and checking the Lab figures for the
paper whites. I believe that now the Spectrocams supplied directly from the
factory as UV models are clearly marked as such on the casing. As has been
mentioned many times on this list it is the difference in the paper white
readings that separate the UV model from the standard model, apart from that
there doesn't seem to be any difference in the readings of the colour
patches used in the targets for making profiles. As for a negative comment
when profiling a CRT with a UV Spectrocam there should not/cannot be any
difference due to UV filtering as the Spectrocam only has the inbuilt light
source for taking reflective readings UV filtered, not the sensor. Therefore
any emissive readings from a monitor will be unfiltered. Exactly the same
for the standard and UV models. Of note is that the standard monitor
calibration software that it is delivered with is rather basic and while
able to perform the necessary task of being able to return the monitor
repeatedly to a constant state and produces an even toned gray scale it does
not provide any black level or luminance measurements and defaults to the
monitors native colour temperature. The temp. is less of a problem with
monitors with adjustable presets but anything along the lines of an Imac and
you are stuck at 9300K. This is why many Spectrocam owners use Profile City
ICC Display as it is compatible with the Spectrocam. If you were looking to
buy a spectrocam for monitor use only, I wouldn't. I use the Spectrocam for
reading profiling patches and it does a great job, accurate and repeatable
but for the monitors I use Optical and a Spyder( have tried others). Great
software, no bugs, pointers don't jump around, all functions always work,
hard to go past.
