Is is possible to control the rendering intent on "both" sides of a color
conversion in Photoshop 6?

When Photoshop does a color conversion, a single intent is used for both the Source->PCS and PCS->Destination halves of the ICC color transform.

If you really need to use a different intent for both halves, first convert to Lab mode with one intent, and then to the final space with the other intent.
