The Spectrocam is claimed to only require 5% change in adjacent patches. One
of the main differences to the user as I see it is that the Eye reads 100
patches per second compared to 35 per second for the Spectrocam allowing for
theoretically faster patch reading. It does appear to be true in practice
but the Spectrocam is still a quick device. The Spectrocam is also a far
more versatile instrument in that it can be used for far more than patch
reading. It reads in a variety of formats apart from Lab and can read colour
temperature, in a light box for example.
