Are there any particular advantages/disadvantages in using linear workflow
(gamma 1.0) for the master file?

Gamma 1.0: total loss of detail in the shadows, most common image operations don't work correctly
visually uniform encoding: detail in all tonal areas, common image operations work

Is it true that the loss of detail upon Lab-to-RGB (or else) is less in
gamma 1.0 than in any other?

NO!
Using gamma 1.0 maximizes your losses!
LAB is closer to gamma 2.5 or 3.0.

Let me guess - you read Timo-the-troll's web pages?
