This is the same thinking, I'm thinking, that caused Adobe to release InDesign in an initial form that would not support non-postscript printers.... I have to say that I am one of the people on Roger's and Jim's side when I throw up my hands and say "what!?!?".
InDesign is for designers (at least to a large part) and guess what they have on their desktops? RGB-accessed inkjet printers. Good profiles can make these things do very well. Better than the designers have had access to up until now, that's for sure.
I'll be one of the first to bemoan the gamut limitations, etc but we should have access to any colorspace for either proofing or final output. It is just not a predictable enough world to constrain workflows in this way...

I agree with the question but think that it should not be rhetorical. We should expect an answer for this one.... please? Perhaps I'm missing something here but...?...
I commented on this limitation to a pre 1.0 release-attending group of Adobe engineers and it is still there?
I must be missing something here...
