The answers to your questions depend on the type of lights used in the viewing booth.
Booths that use incandescent lamps can be used within a minute of turning them on. The
color does not change.
Booths with fluorescent lamps (the majority of booths, I believe), need to be warmed up
before use. The color and brightness of a fluorescent lamp changes as the lamp warms up.
I recommend a half-hour warmup before using fluorescent lamps for critical color
comparisons. Also, as the temperature changes, the color of a fluorescent lamps changes.
Also, dimming a fluoresent lamp often changes its correlated color temperature, so watch
out when using a dimming booth and matching to a monitor screen. Also, the lifetime of
fluorescent lamps is reduced by quickly cycling them on, then off. If you wait for a
half-hour warmup, then perform the comparisons and then turn off the booth, that should
not decrease the life of the lamps appreciably.
