True on both counts, until the product works.
The concept is to approach products with real jobs, and if real jobs
fail then review why they do so and what product changes or
additional information is required for the jobs to fail no longer.
OK, so things don't always work, then let's figure out the
workarounds in the meantime. We can't just sit around twiddling our
thumbs -:).
The ECI is ranged along the lines of a communal workflow laboratory
also ... those folks are in a situation where they have to figure out
how color workflows function, and if they don't function then what
can be done to make them function.
A point of practice when it comes to criticizing: I read the
looooooong Seybold spoof paper by Magulis and Murphy. I read a full
one (1) column vacuous report that an unnamed laser printer failed
because 'a profile' was involved. I did not find any concept of
whether this was an ICC profile, a Color Space Array or somebody in a
chequered shirt on the way to the golf course, nor of which settings
were used in the printing path. I may have misread the article,
because I often misread when skimming, of course. But if I did not
misread, then I also did not find a solutions-oriented approach. IMO
criticism which is not constructive is a waste of time for all
concerned.
