As an OS X printer driver developer, I ask myself the same thing every
day... :-) The level of OS X documentation available to developers and end
users is currently no where near the amount and quality we came to expect
under OS 9.
However, I don't want to beat Apple with too big of a stick for this. The
transition to Carbon and Mac OS X is monumental and we can't expect
everything to be perfect overnight. Apple had two decades to get the classic
OS to where it is today, I suspect it will be a while before OS X has the
same level of in-depth documentation that we would all like.
In the mean time, forums like this seem to be the best way to learn and
share. I've found that all the Apple lists I'm subscribed to have a great
deal of information being shared on them, and most have a high level of
Apple participation as well.
