Actually, printer profiles can be in more places than that. When a print

ColorSync folders.
Thanks a lot to all who replied via this list and by email. Following one
emailed suggestion I tried reinstalling the printer driver. It worked. The
ColorSync utility, under 'Printers' now shows the profiles as being
registered and selecting one of them results in MUCH better prints.
One thing I'm not sure of is there are profiles for various types of paper
and one for Epson SP790 Standard. Am I supposed to select the correct one
for the paper I'm using or will selecting the Standard one do that for me
somehow depending on one paper type I have selected in the dialogue box?
Would seem odd to me if there weren't some interaction here otherwise it's
a bit of a pain to reset the System Preferences every time I change paper
type.
I've really only a hazy idea of how all this works. I know, and appreciate,
what ColorSync is supposed to DO but where I'm hazy is how it all links
together and actually DOES it. Might this be a suitable topic for the list?
We're not all experts in everything we do :-(
