The 41 can read up to 175% reflectance if I remember right. UV causes some
blueness to the near white patches but shouldn't create problems for a strip
reader.

Usually this is because of the linearisation being way off. If the patches
are all too dark you'll get lots of ? marks. IF somehow the firmware of the
41 got changed to a different step rate or the patch and step bars have
changed sizes then you'll also get these errors.
Try recalibrating the 41 and start again. Make sure you have enough white
space before and after the strips otherwise the 41 will get confused.
