In my hours of working with the Epson 10000CF and the Bestcolor RIP (This
may apply for any RIP) I have determined that metamerism can be
significantly reduced by using the right settings when building your paper
profile. Using Profile Maker Pro, I use the "MaxK" setting for Separation, a
black width of 100 and a black start of 10-15. I find this not only smooths
out the overall look of the print and reduces banding, but reduces what was
a large amount of magenta coming through in the neutral gradation in the mid
to 3/4 tones. Since the metameric shift occurs predominantly in the colored
inks, reducing the amount of colored ink used in the neutral areas reduces
metamerism. I am not saying it is gone, but it is significantly reduced. Has
anyone else had this experience?
