I cannot add to any of Neil's suggestions ... certainly everything you
need to know about RGB is there, and I rely on these references too ...
... however, there may be something else to be addressed primarily ...
that being the fundamental difference 'tween an "RGB space" (that which
defines a color with regard to an RGB value), and a "device profile" (which
defines which colors can actually be "accessed"). The first is sometime
referred to as an editing space (e.g., Adobe RGB), conceptually designed to
be predictable and neutral with respect to relatively sever adjustments.
The latter is not conceptual at all .. but belongs to a device ... for
example, a monitor profile ... "which colors can be viewed ("accessed") with
my monitor, and which cannot".
