maybe 1% of customers can detect low-loss JPEG, but a bunch more than 1%
will complain if their whites turn not-white. you could argue that few
presses can hold a 1% dot, but that's not really an acceptable answer.
a non-lossy format is of course preferable, but when you're dealing with oh
20 or so million image scans a year, it's not.
