Hi Lee,
wellcome in the real PosterShop world :-)
Sorry for the nightmare you had with the Product.
I know it now for years and my Colleagues at Onyx are a great team of highly
motivated people. Might be they are suffering a bit in internal
communication because there are cartainly people which know their product
excellent...
Al lot of the problems you described sounds very familiar with me and the
good news is that in 5.6 SP1 which will be released til end this month a lot
of them are solved.
Some of the questions you mentioned about are covered by some "white papers"
see the link below.
http://www.onyxgfx.com/Support/white_paper_index.html
And Yes there is a procedure how to adjust inklimits in PosterShop. (I have
to confess I would explain it different)the file name is:
"Clr_Match_Tbl_for_Sptclr.pdf" I can mail it to you if you like.
Some general Considerations:
There is allway a discrepance between a highly sofisticated product more
like a "rip suite" than a dedicated tool speciallized to this certain job.
PosterShop is like a office suite. It is very mighty and has tons of
functions. Unfortunately this is not easy to handle and everbody needs only
10% out of it. Different 10% I mean...
The modern "desease" of having great feature collections rather then
speciallised tools leads exactly to that what Lee suffered from. The
products are getting complicated and because of their size difficult to make
failure free.
The innovation cycles in this branch as in all other Software areas are
getting faster and faster.
Best example is Microsoft. Windows has two million strings sourcecode. There
is no way to have it failure free. They are talking about thousands of bugs
which are "normal". This means you have to do the fieldtest on the released
product. This is a pain for the enduser no question...
Pressure in the marked is demanding. Onyx has the role of the market leader.
In this dynamic time you can loose this score faster then you would think.
For this they bring out now nearly every third of a year something new. On
the beginning we got something every 24 Months.
Expections from the buyers are high. Investing into a software about 3500
USD creates the demand of a "allproblemsolution" software. In Germany we say
"Eierlegende Wollmilchsau" which means something like a pig which gives wool
and milk and lays down eggs at once ;-) Sounds funny but somehow true....
I think this is a contradiction in itself.
Shareholder value is the highest attitude. Quality suffers then certainly.
Might be we have a overall problem and we are curing only on symtomes rather
then on causes.
It is a bit philosophical. I tried to bring in a little bit understanding
what both sides moves
Lee's an Onyx's.
This is also not an excuse for the performance of PosterShop but makes it
better understandable.
