We recently began running Photoshop 7 under OS 9.x here at the studio. And
the problem we're having is that choosing any option other than 'don't color
manage' causes our digital photographs (which have an imbedded input
profile) to display with a dark blue cast that almost entirely obscures the
image.
These same images are fine in PS 6. And I've checked that the profiles are
in good working order and that they're located in the Colorsync Profiles
folder on each machine.
I recall reading about difficulties people were having running PS 7 under OS
X, is this a similar situation?
Your monitor/display profile is bad -- create a new one.
It might have something that slipped past PS 6 and only shows up as a
problem in PS 7 (because of changes to the ICC spec.) Some older
(over 3 years old) calibration packages are known to produce such
profiles...
