Let me know more about:
Did you made any non-standart procedure to install PS 5.5 or 6 ?
Do you have any utility - perhaps nonstandart too - to defrag and check the
disk?
Could you recheck your first and second FAT to find any errors?
What kind of machine do you have?
The last one, did you try to implode everything :)-eg. delete partitions,
format etc. - and try again with a fresh one OS?
