Note that QuarkXpress 5 by default does not color manage CMYK sources to
CMYK destinations. You have to go to the source profiles section, click
on the CMYK tab, and at the bottom select "Color Manage CMYK Source to
CMYK Destinations".
I haven't had a chance to play with this new (odd) setting. Am I
correct in assuming that what this means is Quark will still utilize
profiles for display, but will do nothing when printing unless it's
checked? If so, I might like having this option as I'm thinking it
will allow viewing a simulation without actually doing any conversion
when printing. Previously, selecting any separation or composite
printer in the CMS preferences meant the print dialog would default
to using their profiles as well.
Ok, now I am totally confused. I decided to look it up in the Quark 5
manual. It says "Check 'Color Manage CMYK Sources to CMYK
Destinations' if you want QuarkCMS to apply color management when the
color space of the color or image is the same as the Monitor,
Composite Output or Separation Output profile space.
It sounds like they are saying "Do you want to make a conversion even
though none is necessary?"
Can someone (Chris?) clarify?
