>Ok, now I am totally confused. I decided to look it up in the Quark 5
manual. It says "Check 'Color Manage CMYK Sources to CMYK
Destinations' if you want QuarkCMS to apply color management when the
color space of the color or image is the same as the Monitor,
Composite Output or Separation Output profile space.
That makes no sense. CMYK images are definitely not in the color space of
the monitor. The way it behaves is exactly how it sounds. It's color
managed for everything EXCEPT when the destination is CMYK. Ignore the
book.
I didn't think it made any sense either. Hence my confusion after I
thought I got it right. The confusion is bad enough with good
instructions. This means there is no possible way for the average
designer to get a handle on Quark's CMS without training. Oh well, I
guess that's where I come in.
And the RGB sources to RGB destinations is exactly how it sounds too,
which means if unchecked it will NOT preview correctly on a monitor or
RGB printer, but it will get converted when you print to a CMYK
destination.
This seems insane to me. Why would you want to stop all RGB color
management except an RGB to CMYK conversion? Ok, so I'm trying to
figure out the best setting in a standard work flow. The designer
wants accurate screen display, but no conversion to their composite
proofer because it's color managed at the RIP stage. So now for RGB
images they get a choice of double profile processing or an accurate
display?? I guess the lesson learned is to not print RGB images to a
CMYK RIP, which has been good advice all along.
