I'm working on profiling an Epson 5500 running the Mac EFI Spark RIP
software. The software makes configuration of the profiles simple but
the language is a little confusing. I'm working with the assumption
that what they are calling a "Simulation" profile is an input
profile. And in order to profile the printer, I just set the
simulation profile to be the same as the output profile, hopefully
the result is no conversion (just like the null match discussion).
My client wants to use the Epson Photo Quality Inkjet paper--you
know--the cheap stuff. Because they print a lot and this is not a
proofer in their environment, but more of a comp printer. The output
is pretty dull--faded looking--compared to their Epson 5000 they have
across the hall. Is this inherent with the pigment Inks? I can't seem
to find any way in the Spark RIP to liven things up.
Another thing I noticed is that when looking at profiles with
Colorthink that I created for both the inkjet paper and glossy paper,
the gamut is alarmingly small compared to profiles of an Epson 3000
running the Stylus RIP to the same paper. Again, is this the pigment
ink doing this? Or maybe my assumption that the simulation profile is
the input profile is screwing me up.
Anyone have any tips here?
