I'm have a weird printing artifact on two images that I have printed on my newly-setup
Epson 1280 equipped with Generations pigment inks and a continuous-feed inking system.
The artifact is a lightly-printed black grid that covers the entire image; it looks like
you're looking at the print through a dirty old screen door. This artifact does not
appear on the electronic image at any magnification, but it appears in all prints of the
two images, regardless of the print size. The test for checking whether the print head
nozzles are clean shows no problem, and I can print one of the "clean" images right
afterwards with no problem. Anyone got a clue why this is happening? (I've not yet tried
the obvious, rescanning from scratch, since I hope not to have to spend all that time
color-correcting and spotting again!)
I'm working with 4x5 transparencies, scanned on a SprintScan 45 Ultra at 2500 dpi, color
corrected and spotted in PhotoShop. I copy the master to a sized file, convert it to the
proper profile, and feed it to the printer at 720 dpi (which it claims is the maximum it
will take without throwing away information). Most of the prints are 12x15".
