Well this is totally up my alley. I would for sure go with a scan back over
shooting 8x10 film. In the world of art repro, film is dead on arival. The
only way you are evr going to get a good match to the original art work is
with a scan back, BetterLight is the only way to go. They have the best
support, nicest people. Call support and you will probably talk with Mike
Collete the founder of scan backs. I can't say enough about these people at
BetterLight. If you are going to be shooting oil on canvas make sure you
get some very powerful lights because cross polarization will be a must to
get rid of speculars. I myself run HMI Lights into Chimera Soft Boxes that
are covered with Polarize material. Then get yourself a good scanner profile
package either from ProfileCity or Gretag. I have found over the past few
months that I make the best camera profiles with Don Hutchenson Reflective
target and burn profile with ProFile City software. Hope this helps.
