Pray tell us what magic film you are using. In my clearly
underprivileged experience, a 100 Mb file from 35 mm film is as useful
as an ashtray on a motorbike :-)

In any case, I respectfully suggest that perhaps your publicly
recognized success is due in a large part to what takes place *after*
the original image capture, and that you are giving credit to the film
and/or scanner manufacturer that really belongs to you. After all, if it
were easy, everybody would be doing it...

I would have thought, though, that notwithstanding all the other
advantages of digital capture that various friends have posted in this
thread, dynamic range alone would suffice to tip the decision towards
scan backs (provided the paintings sit still, of course).
