Steve, Terry, and all,
I am currently at the tail end of an internal sales brochure where I'm using
the Canon BJW-7000 and Fiery X2-W RIP (a wide-format inkjet) for proofing. I
sent a test pattern to the print shop so that I could generate my own CMYK
destination profile. I profiled this and sent the new CMYK profile to the
X2-W using ColorWise Pro tools. It was loaded as a simulation profile. Then,
I calibrated the X2-W and BJW with the DTP32. The last print that I sent to
the BJW before turning my InD file over to the service bureau matches the
press proof that I received on Friday.
Whenever I've used a profile to do soft stuff on the computer (Photoshop,
InDesign, whatever), the output from the EFI box matches. Just so you all
know, I work, from an image standpoint, in RGB up until the client OKs the
job--using the Fiery as the proofer. At the point I need to turn it over to
the SB, I use the profile to batch convert to CMYK in Photoshop and export
to PDF using the same profile to convert the other job data to the
appropriate CMYK.
Perhaps it's my familiarity with the EFI way of doing things (I was using
EFI's Cachet to do do the same thing waaaaay back before it ended up in
their Fiery RIP line), but I've never had a problem that didn't end up being
output-device related.
