This post is a follow-up on the "blues turning purple and reds turning
orange" post. I interpreted the original poster very differently than
everybody else, it seems. The original post did not strike as as a 'gamut
mapping' problem, like everybody else replied to, but as an ink fading
problem. That's why I propose to continue this thread under a different
header.
My problem is with the 20ps dye-based inks.
I'm wondering whether HP is aware of this problem? And, of course, to what
extent they are doing something about it? Two days ago, I have sent them an
Excel spreadsheet detailing the shift of color, in Delta E, that occurs as
the ink dries on the paper, measured over a period of 72 hours -- I stopped
after 72 hours (maybe I shouldn't have) but I was so pissed that I did not
have the heart to continue beyond that time. I would say about 10% of all
the color patches on the target I was measuring over time shifted by as muh
as 10 Delta E. If anyone's interested to look at that data, you're more than
welcome to contact me off-list.
Folks, I've tried many, many different media on the 20ps I have, in search
for the elusive media that would stabilize under an acceptable time frame to
me, one day or less. But there isn't such thing. Even HP's own 'approved'
Proofing SemiGloss did not cut it. Mind you I have not tried the HP Proofing
Gloss? I'd be curious to look at that one over a period of 72 hours.
Don't get me wrong: I am getting nice profiles with this machine but the
problem is that they are not stable over time. I almost have to ask my
client, who are doing color critical work, the following question: at what
time do you want to use the proof from your HP?
Hope HP comes out with pigment inks for this printer soon.
