I need a little help. We have a Lightjet 2080 as our primary output device.
It, as you may know, uses a closed loop calibration with the scanner
(basically Candella's colorcircuit cq). We have been forced into a
colorsync workflow through client mandate (I don't mind, I've been trying to
do it for years). This particular client is no longer accepting
transparencies, and is doing their own proofs via their separator.
To implement the front end of the ColorSync workflow, I changed to
silverfast for our scanning software, with impressive results. That was
pretty much all we needed to do, we have no output for that workflow. The
problem is with other clients that expect transparencies. When I plot and
scan a color chart, and let FireWare do it's magic, everything gets far too
contrasty and saturated. What am I doing wrong?
Here is the procedure I am following:
1. Check E-6 chemistry with control strip
2. Linearize film recorder
3. Plot color chart, check for neutrality, replot until perfect
4. Scan in chart with same settings I would use for normal trans.
5. Generate LUT
6. should be perfect film now, but isn't.
If anyone has any thoughts on this, I would love to hear them.
Thanks,
Alan Donnelly
