Ah, no. Or rather yes. The great debate is whether or not process control
comes from near perfect grey balance or a combination of SID, TAC+SID or
whatever terminology have you gets you to to optimal press printing.
Controlling grey on an imagesetter is straight forward. Inkjets are a
engineering feat in themselves to produce a linear graduation. When it comes
to proofing a press on an inkjet if you want the match to be a true contract
(color) quality you're probably going to have to tweak the grey balance. Up
until now it's daunting to do with most editors I've seen, so much so that
it's easier to accept the slight variations in grey (straight profile) than
trying to play spatial grid soccer in the Lab color field. In the end there
are many good choices to make in profiling apps, enough that we can choose
where our needs want to be situated on the quality scale. The purpose of
color management then is met, it's up to you to decide the how high the goal
is.
