ICC Profile effecting text & vectors?

I am having a weird problem printing to our Xerox Phaser 790 color laser
printer. The reason I'm posting this on this forum is because my problem
directly involves ICC profiles.
I create all of my print materials in either Illustrator 8 or InDesign 2. I
always export a PDF from these apps for printing to the Xerox. My problem is
this:
If I place/import a raster file with an embedded profile into either app AND
then have "Use included/embedded ICC Profiles" set in the settings for both
apps, my prints show all text and vectors at less than 100%. This is really
strange to me, because the text and vectors are created within the app and
the "use ICC profiles" would seem to me to only apply to the imported
raster?
I can repeat the problem with 100% consistency. If I turn off "use ICC
profiles" and re-export the PDF, all of the text/vectors print correctly.
The "less than 100%" effects black and all colors.
This is a really strange situation and I'm wondering...
1) Has anyone else come across this problem?
2) Is there another solution that would let me use the embedded profile from
the raster images?
Thanks for your time and attention.
