Not me Tony - I am just a dumb schlub photographer. But I have paid a lot of
real money to try to figure out all this stuff over the years. I try to pass
on what I learn when I learn it for two reasons.
Reason #1: Maybe some other poor dumb schlub will save some dollars - learn
sumpin and tell me some day. Then maybe I'll get to save some dollars.
Reason #2: Some one who really knows what they are doing tells me I am a
total bonehead and why and I learn something.
Essentially the problem here - going back to the audio analogy for a minute
(incidentally I have been called to the carpet by John Wawrzonek on that one
- and he is someone who REALLY knows something about audio) we are in a
situation similar to a recording engineer being thrown into a control room
filled with all manner of mixing boards, amps, preamps, compressor/limiters
effects units etc with thousands of knobs all around - and we are told to
make a recording.
One small problem - most of the knobs are not labeled. And a lot of the
knobs that are labeled are labeled incorrectly!
So we all start tweaking away and thank heavens we have this forum in which
to compare notes. Incidentally I will take this opportunity to publicly
thank Don Hutcheson, Bruce Fraser, Joseph Holmes, David Tobie, Andrew
Rodney, John Panozzo, John Wawrzonek, Mark Doyle and Steve Upton for all the
help and time they have given me over the past many years.
Best wishes,
Nick
