The front panel controls (in monitors where they are offered) also control
the guns instead of the video card... this is a subject that has been
intentionally obscured by marketing; so its certainly understandable that you
would be confused about it. Think of the cable (as Andrew describes it) as a
convenient one-button way to control the front panel RGB controls... or an
inconvenient way, if hooking the sensor up with the extra cable every couple
weeks seems like more work than adjusting the front panel RGB controls once
or twice a year. There are packages that offer cable communication with a
wider array of monitors (ProfilerCity offers one, guess we are going to have
to start saying basICColor, instead) but the LaCie software is LaCie specific.
