Terry's right. Given good profiles (including the monitor profile) and a
decent CMM you should be able to get *very close* to home plate before
getting tagged out (whew! a color management term in the baseball analogy).
I routinely soft proof jobs in Photoshop/InDesign with no "egads! where'd
that color come from!" shouts on final output. On my "coffee table"
workstation (a G4 with a KDS 19" monitor profiled with an i1) I can come so
close to a MatchPrint that one of my primary clients doesn't even bother
with that part of the approval process anymore (I have a couple clients that
still do want a MatchPrint--old habits die hard).
