Olaf,
Hey, it's my turn to help you!
The rendering intent in Photoshop will only apply if you perform a
transformation from one space to another. Otherwise, if you tag an image and
then export it to another format, you're either at the mercy of the embedded
profile's default RI, or the RI settings that can be set in the destination
application (like InDesign) if the application supports custom definitions
for the image type. And I doubt that this behavior will be fixed in PS 7.
Document RI is defined in the InDesign Color Settings dialog box, and
controls the RI behavior for all InD-defined colors and imported images that
can be modified. Thus, as long as InDesign can modify the CMS behavior for
an imported image, you can either use the Color Settings setting, or modify
it during both Place (by choosing the Show Import Options check box) or via
Object>Image Color Settings. In version 1.x, InDesign let you (under
Document settings) choose different RIs for Solid and Images. This has been
removed from InD 2, I guess to make it look like the UI for Photoshop and
Illustrator.
