Hi,
I just ran into the following issue:
- created an image in Photoshop 6.01, tagged it with the ECI-RGB profile
and saved it as PDF (ECI-RGB profile embedded)
- my color management prefs in Photoshop 6.01 are set to perceptual for
the rendering intent
- I imported that image into Indesign 2 (color management enabled)
- I created a PDF from within Indesign
- the imported image shows up with rendering intent relative colorimetric
On further inspecting everything I found that
- Photoshop 6.01 does not write any rendering intent into an image saved
as a PDF file
- as according to the PDF Reference Manual "no rendering intent" means
"relartive colorimetric rendering intent", Indesign 2 does a correct job.
The problem though is that as a user I am lost now, as in Indesign 2
there is no way to (re)assign a rendering intent to an image imported as
EPS or PDF.
Is this fixed in Photoshop 7?
While I love PDF I am definitely disappointed with some of the
implementations around... (especially if they are from Adobe).
Also, playing further around, I saved the image as Photoshop file, and
imported that into Indesign. The "Image color settings..." menu displays
a dialog box where I have the option of using "Document image intent" as
opposed to specifically assigning any of the four rendering intents
explicitly.
What does "Document image intent" mean? I would have guessed there is a
way to set a rendering intent for images as opposed to non-image objects,
but I cannot find such a thing. Exporting the Indesign 2 page to PDF I
then found that the rendering intent from the document color management
settings was used. But would someone call that "Document image intent"
(or is my English simply not up to that)?
